Abstract (18/July/2013)
Abstract- done in smoothdraw software
Draw a shape using digital pencil in various locations. Then pick another shape and repeat, sometimes change colours or thickness. Finally, in thick purple, draw straight lines between the existing lines, in order to convert the drawing into enclosed regions. Then use bucket fill tool to fill the regions with single colours (some same colour, some different).

Koala (18/July/2013)
Koala- done in smoothdraw software
Draw a koala shape while looking at a photo (in black up the top left). Then looking only at the koala shape drawn, draw other koala shapes in various colours, modifying them by adding extra bends and changes in size to each part of the koala to create varieties of koalas and other abstract animals based on the original koala construction.

Floriarts

Now will be described an activity I helped run at an Arts Centre in August 2012 called floriarts, the instructor Mariana explained how to do it and then I helped other people, she finds instructions for activities on youtube. It involved creation of flowers made from plastic bottles. Cover three tables with plastic to protect, 3 people per table (chairs), put out jars with water (2 per table) and a plastic square container of water half full, to hold paint brushes when not in use. Some plastic lids eg margarine, but preferably clear, for mixing paints if needed. Coke, apple juice and other bottles were used. A sharp knife was inserted near the bottom of the bottle (about 10cm from the bottom) to provide an insertion point for scissors and then scissors were used to cut off the bottom. Strips were cut along the length of the bottle, some strips could go closer to the lid than others, but mostly the same distance, could be thinner or thicker strips. The ends of the strips were cut rounded or tapered (like a sword end but maybe not to a point just square then two tapered cuts on the sides). Some strips were cut off at some point further down so those strips were shorter. Some strips were folded out. Then the strips were painted with paintbrush thicker or thinner or skewer for even finer lines or dots, sometimes painted one side other times both sides, hold flower from lid to avoid touching the paint. Place on a plastic sheet on floor to dry. Use a glue gun (the cylindrical glue stick goes in the end) to glue two bottles together one inside the other, can also glue half a foam ball in the middle of the top one if like. Careful the glue is hot, avoid touching, also it can drip so use over a plastic sheet to protect carpet.

The equipment required is: sharp knife (3 shared between 10 people), scissors (1 each), paint, paint brushes, disposable plastic sheets for floor and tables, disposable wooden skewers or something thin for making dots or thin lines, plastic bottles (2 each), glue gun and glue sticks for it, jars for water for paintbrushes, optional: plastic lids for mixing paint colours.

Some sample images of previously made floriarts (not from this session) are here:

Kids Mobile Game UI Design

Kids Game UI Design by Jevan
SmoothDraw Project  Paint.Net final project  You have to touch the region with the number of butterflies according to the example and number up the top. Then the butterflies clicked disappear. Once the small butterflies of that quantity have been clicked, the medium butterflies and then big butterfly can be clicked. The big butterfly is the last be clicked to end the game. The score is shown at the bottom of the screen (number of clicked items). If there are two butterflies in a grid space, it is necessary to click both butterflies for each to disappear. On a mobile mouse clicking is done by touching/tapping them. Therefore this game encourages learning of the smaller numbers (1, 2, 3 and 4) and counting skills for kids.
